About Desiree (Dez) Nunez

Welcome! I’m Desiree (or Dez), and I’m so glad you’re here.

Taking the step to seek support takes real courage, and I want you to know you don’t have to navigate life’s heavy things alone.

I became a therapist to fill a gap I became painfully aware of in my own youth. Growing up in a sporty, military, religious Hispanic household, therapy wasn’t even on the radar. When I finally found support in young adulthood, my therapist changed my life, and I realized how rare it was to find a therapist of color who was also direct, sporty, and unapologetically geeky. As a proud Latina with ADHD who grew up navigating both special education and Gifted & Talented programs, I know firsthand what it feels like to search for spaces where you truly belong. I chose this path to serve those who look like me, those who don't, and anyone needing a relatable place to heal.

In my practice, I work with kids (ages 10–12), teens, and adults, as well as families. I specialize in working with GT youth, athletes, and individuals navigating trauma, religious harm, ADHD, and interpersonal challenges. Warmly direct, curious, and creative, my therapeutic style is flexible. When we're learning skills or theories, I bring structure; when we're processing deep emotions, stress, or trauma, I offer a free, expressive space. Whether we’re weaving in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), or drawing insights from Geek Therapy and fandoms, I always tailor sessions to your unique world. I will always have a "back-up plan," but above all, this is your space, and you lead the way.

When I’m not in session, you’ll usually find me staying active and embracing the things I love. I coach high school basketball, lift weights, read fast, update my Goodreads and Letterboxd accounts, and craft far too many Spotify playlists. I’m a huge fan of comics and superhero stories (Daredevil, Spider-Man, and Mulan are constant sources of inspiration for me), and I love watching Denver Nuggets games or catching a concert at Coors Field. At home, I cherish time with my puppy, partner, and family, usually with a good cup of coffee or some green chile nearby.

My goal is to create a safe, grounded space where you feel accepted, supported, and empowered to explore your story. Together, we’ll work toward uncovering your resilience, processing challenges, and building the tools you need to move forward. Healing happens best when we make room for connection, curiosity, and authentic human expression, and I’d be honored to walk alongside you on your journey.
